De Russische televisie gebruikte de moord op de dochter van de extreem-rechtse filosoof Aleksandr Doegin om oorlogsstemming tegen Oekraïne verder te voeden. Poetin noemde Daria Doegina een echte patriot. Het is de vraag of de bomaanslag in Moskou de aandacht kan afleiden van Ruslands worsteling met de oorlog. Volgens Pavel Luzin is de recrutering van nieuwe soldaten zo goed als mislukt. Het Kremlin weet ook niet wat het aanmoet met de aangekondigde 'referenda' in het bezette Zuidoost-Oekraïne: volgens Andrey Pertsev heeft Rusland geen enkel verhaal om de aansluiting te onderbouwen en wordt het plebisciet mogelijk uitgesteld tot in de winter. Veel actief verzet tegen de oorlog is er niet in Rusland. Maar de Russische historicus Sergey Radchenko vindt niet dat Russen collectief verantwoordelijk kunnen worden gesteld voor de oorlog en dus niet collectief mogen worden gestraft met een algemeen visumverbod, zoals sommige landen bepleiten.

Once again the Kremlin has miscalculated in the war against Ukraine. The Russians were confident that they would conquer the whole of Donbass this summer and organise 'referenda' in the southern cities of Kherson and Zaporizhzhia. But the offensive has grinded to a halt. Russia might have to postpone the annexation once again, till winter, argues political analist Andrey Pertsev for Meduza. They will blame the military.
