Nanci Adler

Directeur onderzoek NIOD

Nanci Adler is Directeur Onderzoek bij het NIOD Instituut voor Oorlogs-, Holocaust- en Genocidestudies en Hoogleraar Herinnering, Geschiedenis en Recht in Relatie tot Regimewisselingen aan de UvA.

Adler schreef, onder andere, Keeping Faith with the Party: Communist Believers Return from the Gulag (2012), The Gulag Survivor: Beyond the Soviet System (2002), Victims of Soviet Terror: The Story of the Memorial Movement (1993), en vele wetenschappelijke artikelen over de consequenties van het Stalinisme. Haar huidige onderzoek richt zich op ‘transitional justice’ en de erfenis van het communisme.

Expert on Stalinism

Nanci Adler is research director of the Dutch Institute for War, Holocaust and Genocide Studies (NIOD). She specializes in the legacy of Stalinism and has written extensively on the subject.

She is Professor of Memory, History and Transitional Justice at the University of Amsterdam.

Adler is the author of, among others, Keeping Faith with the Party: Communist Believers Return from the Gulag (2012), The Gulag Survivor: Beyond the Soviet System (2002), and Victims of Soviet Terror: The Story of the Memorial Movement (1993).
